A tragic traffic incident occurred on Thursday, April 17, 2025, claiming the life of a 40-year-old man following a head-on collision between a sedan and a dump truck in southeastern Sacramento County. Emergency medical services responded to the scene at approximately 5:56 a.m. at the intersection of Elder Creek Road and South Watt Avenue, where they discovered a severely damaged sedan following the impact.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision occurred when the Buick sedan, traveling northbound on South Watt Avenue, attempted to pass other vehicles in traffic at the same moment the dump truck was proceeding southbound. Despite both drivers’ efforts to avoid the collision, the vehicles struck head-on.

The driver of the dump truck was reportedly uninjured in the April 17th incident. Following the collision, South Watt Avenue was temporarily closed between Florin Road and Elder Creek Road as emergency crews worked to clear the scene and conduct their initial investigation.

Local residents are reminded to exercise caution during early morning commutes when visibility can be compromised and to maintain safe following distances, particularly on roadways with mixed commercial and passenger vehicle traffic.

A pedestrian was fatally struck in a hit-and-run collision on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Sacramento, according to official police reports. The Sacramento Police Department confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Lemon Hill Avenue and 65th Street Expressway in the southeastern section of the city.

Emergency response units arrived promptly at the scene following reports of the collision. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, who was pronounced deceased at the location. The driver responsible for the collision had fled prior to the arrival of law enforcement personnel.

As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities closed the northbound lanes of 65th Street Expressway between Elder Creek Road and Lemon Hill Avenue. The roadway remained closed into the late evening hours of April 26 as investigators processed the scene.

Traffic safety specialists note that the intersection where the April 26th incident occurred has been identified as a high-risk area for pedestrian traffic, particularly during evening hours when visibility is reduced. The Sacramento Department of Transportation had previously scheduled a safety assessment of this corridor for May 2025.

Law enforcement officials are requesting that anyone with information regarding the vehicle or driver involved in the Saturday evening hit-and-run contact the Sacramento Police Department or the regional Crime Stoppers organization. Witnesses may remain anonymous when providing information.

The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of family members. The Sacramento Police Department characterized the investigation as “still very active” as of late Saturday evening.

This incident marks the fourth pedestrian fatality in Sacramento County since the beginning of 2025, highlighting ongoing concerns about traffic safety in the region’s most vulnerable road users.
